WAITARA.

GENERAL ITEMS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Nov. 17. At a committee meeting of the local football club it was decided to hold their annual sports on February 4, which it is hoped will fit in with other fixtures. This year’s sports will be on an ambitious scale. The total prize money will run into close upon £2OO, with gold and silver medals similar to last year. One of the star items will be the Sheffield Handicap, worth £5O. The death occurred in* Auckland last week of the wife of Mr. George Pearce, an old resident of Waitara. The deceased lady had been suffering for years. The messages of sympathy sent from Waitara were very sincere expressions from those who had intimately known Mrs. Pearce. The School Committee have decided to defer the laying down of an asphalt tennis court, until after definite improvements are carried out to the school building, when it will be more opportune to decide on a site. In the meantime a grass patch will be cut and utilised. The Plunket Society committee have decided to hold a mart on Friday, December 16, details of which will be submitted later> This society, which has only going for a short while, is doing good work. The increase in the work shows clearly that the mothers of the district realise the advantages to be gained by having the advice of a qualified nurse at their disposal. The society are short of funds, and it is to be hoped their proposed market day will be successful. . The death has occurred of Mrs. Alexander, wife of Mr. D. Alexander, Tikorangi. The deceased lady was well respected, and those who are left behind will receive the utmost sympathy. The new extension of the telephone hours of the local Post Office will take place as from December 1, the hours being from 7 aju. till 11 pjxu
