RIFLE SHOOTING.

PLEA FOR DOMINION MEETING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Nov. 17. A deputation representing the Dominion Rifle Association waited on Mr. Massey and the Defence Minister to-day to ask for a reconsideration of the decision to cancel the Dominion rifle meeting next year. A number of members of Parliament were present. Mr. Marshall, president of tiie New Zealand Rifle Clubs’ Executive, presented arguments against the cancellation, mainly on the lines of those cited when the deputation met the Minister of Defence last week. He also read a tehgram from General Russell wishing the deputation success. Mr. Massey said that he was fully sympathetic with rifle dubs, but the cancellation of the meeting was the result of a Cabinet decision, and could be revoked only by Cabinet. Retrenchment was necessary, and he would not promise anything, but Cabinet would consider the matter.
