South Africa, in the second Innings, lost eight wickets for 472, and declared the innings dosed. The scores were: AUSTRALIA. First Innings 650 SOUTH AFRICA. First Innings 243 Second Innings.

Total for eight wickets - 472 Bowling analysis.—Gregory, three for 68; Macdonald, none for 121; Malley, three for 113; Hendry, none for 58; Collins, none for 7; Taylor, none for 19; Mayne, none for 1; Ryder, two for 66. Australia, in the second innings, scored seven without the loss of a wicket (ColUns 5, Bardsley 2). The weather was fine at the start and the wicket good. Frank and Nourse, resuming their unfinished innings, commenced forcing the game. The Australians were bowling well oft Che wicket, with a cluster of fieldsmen behind, the idea being to keep down runs. Nourse gave a difficult chance off Hendry at 96, and reached his century in 224 minutes. Eleven runs later he was caught in the slips. Frank, with Ills Impregnable defence, defied all changes of bowlers, but became leg,sore and tired. Frank’s innings lasted 518 minutes before he was dismissed by a catch at mid-on. —Eight for 450. His batting was patient and good throughout. In the meantime Malley had captured Blanckenburg and Marx, and the wicketkeeper accounted for Ling. All had a lively time while they lasted. Ryder bowled with an excellent turn of speed and Mailcy kept the batsmen guessing. The innings lasted 535 minutes, and the score is the highest in a test match in Africa. Ninety minutes’ play remained, but shortly after the Australians commenced an appeal against the bad light was upheld, and, rain following, the match was abandoned. Playing at Stratford yesterday Stratford defeated Inglewood by an Innings and 2 runs. The match is the first to be played in Stratford for a long time, and to mark the occasion the Mayor of Stratford (Mr. J. W. McMillan) opened the match by bowling the first ball. Addressing those present, Mr. McMillan com- . jdimented Stratford on raising a club, and remarked that trie game should be fostered ! in the schools in the same way as rugby football is fostered.
