WANGANUI SHOW.

A SUCCESSFUL OPENING. TARANAKI EXHIBITORS. PROMINENT IN JERSEY CLASSES. (From Our Special Reporter.) Wanganui, Last Night. The Wanganui Show was opened to-day in beautiful weather, and there was a splendid attendance. The entries on the whole show a considerable increase, but this is mainly made up in the classes for home industries, dogs, etc., cattle, if anything, showing a falling off. As usual, Jerseys are the strongest section. In these classes such well-known Taranaki breeders as A. E. Western (Hawera), W. Mortlock and Linn Bros. (Norin anby) more than held their own with outside competitors, the first-named scoring both champion and reserve in bulls, whilst Linn Bros, just beat him by a point in the points trophy. Milking Shorthorns were the next strongest section, Mrs. J. Walls (Hastings) and Williams and Allen (Rahanui) practically having the competitions to themselves. Friesians and Ayrshires were disappointing. In the former there was only one exhibit. H. R. Green, of Kairanga, had freely entered, but his cattle, it is said, are reserved for Stratford. In the Ayrshires only one breeder was represented with three animals. Herefords were a strong class. In Shorthorns W. J. Cooper (Rapanui) took all prizes in females. G. A. Turner, of Eltham, had entered freely in the bulls section, but his cattle did not arrive. Fat cattle also elicited good competition, T. A. Duncan being the principal winner. There were a fair number of pigs catalogued, but several were not penned. Horses appear to be very strong. In the sections judged to-day Mrs Anderson (Whangamomona) scored freely. In dogs, Mrs. Willis and J. Willis (New Plymouth) have entered with success. Sheep are very strong. P. Bremer (Okaiawa) has entered in Lincolns. In the fancy work sections Taranaki is also represented, but the results are not* available.

The show is very well laid out. The officials all knew' their work and did it well, with the result that the bulk of the judging was finished well up to time. Mr. F. G. Seddon, as secretary, had splendid arrangements made. Prospects are for fine weather and a record attendance to-mor-row. Following are the awards: CATTLE. SHORTHORN. Judge: M. F.
