DISTRICT NEWS.
TOKO. (From Our Own Correspondent.) His Majesty’s wish that two minutes’ silence be observed on Armistice Day was acceded toby the local school children. With the Union Jack at half-mast the school children stood with bowed heads in honor of our brave boys, who, during the Great War, sacrificed their, lives for us. Except for a strong wind the opening day of the Toko tennis club was perfect. Quite a crowd of "enthusiastic players assembled, and several sets were played. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies, who are to be complimented upon their good cooking. After the dry windy weather we have bean having lately, light showers have been a blessing in disguise. Dr. Elizabeth Gunn paid a visit to the Toko sclool a few days ago and inspected Uie throat and teeth of the children. This was the official opening of “tooth brush” drill in this school. It is carried on in every oth?r school, being a part of the school drill, and from my point of view I think a very good idea, as children will shirk if they can. A good sound set of teeth is the highroad to health. Bishop Averill is to conduct the Anglican service here next Sunday. It is to be hoped that there will be a good congregation. Mr. and Mrs. Kemp have returned from their honeymoon and have taken up'their residence on Waiwiri Road. Mr. M. Gernhoefer had rather a painful accident some days ago. He was turning a cow out of the bail, when she turned round, causing the prop of the door to swing, striking Mr. Gernhoefer in the face. He is about again now as bright and well as ever.
