CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE.
ORGANISATION NEEDED. MARKETING PRODUCE. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Nov. 16. In an address to tne Chamber of Commerce on community effort, Mr. Stuart Wilson said that the New Zealand Chambers greatly needed development on the lines of America and Canada. All branches of commercial activity should be represented, and members drafted into committees to carry out the work they were best qualified to perform. The concentration of effort thus effected was invaluable. The programme should include lhe scientific marketing of New Zealand produce. At present we were losing millions per annum owing to the absence of business methods in this respect. The American city bureau was prepared to send a thoroughly qualified man to New Zealand to reorganise tne Chambers, and the cost for the four cities would be about £2OOO. Air. Wilson offered to raise the Wellington quota and the man from Canada could begin work here. The Chamber decided to take the suggestion into consideration. In connection with this proposal, it is recalled that years ago Air. Seddon told the Chambers of Commerce that they were not doing the work they should be doing- The repeated insistence of New Zealanders who return from visits to England on the deplorable way in which our produce is handled is undoubtedly stirring up a feeling that something must be done to improve matters.
