OUTLET FOR BUTTER.
CARGOES FOR NEW YORK. GOOD PRICE OBTAINED. Blitter has been shipped from the Dominion to New York, and further orders are being received. Apparently the only obstacle to the development of a large trade with this new market is the scarcity of refrigerated ships. A consignment of butter left the Dominion for New York in the Canadian Conqueror. It was sold at Is lid alb c.i.f. This price is much above that ruling on the London market, where there is no forward buying just now. The readiness of New York to buy forward hiis, therefore some significance. If the prices in New York should recede to the London parity, however, trade would not be possible from the Dominion, because the rates of freight to New York are very high. Tne freight on butter, which has just been shipped in the Canadian Conqueror, was 10s 8d a box, against 6s to London. The difference in the two rates represents about |d a lb. * A great quantity of Danish butter is consumed in New York, but it is quite a new market for New Zealand. Whether the Dominion will be able to exploit it to any extent, and such an outlet at the present juncture ie a matter of importance to the dairy industry, seemingly depends on matters connected with shipping. In the meantime Ihe discouraging aspect of affairs on the London market is not preventing consignments from going forward to the United Kingdom. The Remuera recently lifted 4000 ’boxes from Lyttelton, and space is being readily booked.
