FARM AND DAIRY.
MODEL DAIRY FARM. The regular monthly meeting of the Stratford Aiodel Dairy Farm was last week, there, being present: Messrs. J. W. Deem (chairman), J. B. Richards, E. Alarfell, W. H. AVere, K. Tarrant, Al. T. Phillips, and S. Pitt. With reference to extra labor the chairman reported that Mr. Taylor had been appointed to fill the position, and commenced duties on October 20. Mr. Pitt reported that a pedigree yearling Jersey bull had been purchased. The Manager’s report was read, received and adopted, and is as follows: Pasture.—Feed has gone back during the last two weeks owing to excessive wind and the nights being cold, causing the cows to drop in milk. Stock.—Fifty-three cows are being milked, quantity of milk for the month, 47,7731b5; average test, 4.2 for the month. Pigs.—Eight fat pigs were sold to the Inglewood Bacon Factory, the average Voight being 1341b5, at 8d per lb. Cropping. —About *2 acres of soft turnips were drilled November 1, 1921; acres peas and beans, two acres of mangolds and one of carrots in varieties were drilled on November 2, 1921. Small patch of rye corn drilled same date. Oats in Field 12 were out on October 26, and stacked on October 28, this paddock is now being ploughed and will be ready for drilling in about seven days. Would like Committee to arrange quantity of seed to be sown to the acre. Otie yearling Jersey bull has been purchased for the farm. The staff on the farm be granted a holiday on November 24, being Show Day. ’ It was resolved that a paddock of approximately four acres be shut up for hay. It was also decided that Field 12 be sown down as originally agreed upon, excepting that one half kale be utilised in lieu of oats. Accounts amounting to £398 Ils fid were passed for payment. The chairmap was authorised to sign the petition re Power Board on behalf of the Society. It was resolved that the staff be granted a holiday on Show Day, 24th instant.
