PERSONAL.

Mr; S. G. Smith, M.P. for Taranaki, and Mr. O. Hawken, M.P. for Egmont, are spending the week-end in their* electorates.

A London cable announces the death of the Rev. Dr. Peter Taylor Forsyvh, principal of Hackney Theological College, Hampstead, since 1901. He was 73.

Mr. J. R. Hamilton (M.P. for Awarua), Mr. T. D. Burnett (M.P. for Temuka), and Mr. J. Bitehener (M.P. for Waitaki) are the guests of Mr. O. Hawken, M.P., at Eltham.

A very pleasing ceremony took place at the annual re-union of the North Taranaki branch of the South African Veterans’ Association on Saturday night, when members recognised the excellent work rendered by both the president and the secretary during the three years the association has been in existence. Comrade R. Pike, in presenting President De Launay with a pipe, and the seertary, Mr. D. P. Evans, with a fountain pen and cigarette holder, remarked that the association was particularly fortunate in having such men at the head of its affairs. Vicepresident McPherson said they were not to look at the presentations from the point of View of their money’s worth, but as tokens of esteem from men who 21 years ago shared their blanket, their last bit of biscuit and drop of water with them when they were soldiers of the Queen. The recipients suitably replied.
