MURDER OF HAWKER.
DETAILS OF THE CRIME. SHOT AT CLOSE RANGE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Nov. 11. A message from Opotiki states that the post-mortem of Zam Bukka definitely disclosed that the victim had been shot in the head at close range. Twenty pellets were extracted from the Itead. 15 being located in the brain. The charge entered between the eye and nose. Investigation of the murder is being made by Inspector Hutton and Detective M‘Leod, who to-day are at the scene of the tragedy. Zam Bukka left the village of Marana i for Omaio nine miles distant, on Friday last, his departure being witnessed _by Natives, and. whilst crossing the Motu River, was passed in midstream by a Native named Pa uni Namaki. After crossing the river deceased had proceeded only a short distance before being bailed up and shot. Deceased was killed on the track and his body carried or /dragged a distance of 20 yards, where it was subsequently uiscovered face downwards, partly covered with logs and driftwood. The scene of the shooting was marked by a pool of blood, which was covered by a log.
