MORE WRECKAGE.

LARGE QUANTITY COMES ASHORE. NO CLUE TO IDENTITY. Another mass of wreckage, apparently that of an American wooden vessel, has been washed up on the beaehatthe foot of the Perth Road, near Okato. The wreckage agrees in description with that recently found on the health at Pio Pio and at Omata, but there is nothing about the timbers that is likely to lead to the identification of the Vessel tc which it belonged. According to reports received from settlers and from the police, the wreckage consists of a large portion of the hull of a wooden vessel, apparently being the forward part of the starboard side. It is painted green and has three glass portholes, the stays being of oregon, with outer and inner planking of 4in. thickness. A few days ago a ship’s compass was found on the beach near Pungarehu, and this was appropriated by the Marine Department. The amount of wreckage that has now come ashore on various parts of the west coast leaves no doubt of the total destruction of a vessel, the name of which remains unknown. It is not considered possible, by the nature of it, that the wreckage could be from the -large steamer Canastota, which mysteriously disappeared some months ago, but it is considered more likely that it is from an American sailing vessel which also disappeared about the same time.
