HIDE PRICES FLUCTUATE. At Messrs. L. A. Nolan and Co.’s monthly sale of tides and skins the buyers were fully representative of tanners and exporters. Calfskins showed a drop of fully 3d per lb. in sympathy with thd drop at last Friday’s sale in Wellington. Heavyweight hides (cow and ox) showing substance, made a distinct advance, there evidently being a marked shortage. Light and medium were somewhat irregular, a downward tendency being apparent in any but the best conditioned stuff. Calfskins (sound) ranged from 13%d to 15 5-8 d per lb. Specially selected extra stout ox hides reached ICd per lb.
