A SERIOUS RIOT. SPEECH BY THE VICEROY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Nov. 8, 5.5 p.m. Delhi, Nov. 7. Lord Reading opened the second session of the Princes’ Chamber, in the presence of a brilliant attendance of Princes and Chiefs from all parts of India. In bis speech Lord Reading referred to the visit of the Prince of Wales. He dwelt on the onerous responsibilities of the present-day Administration, and appealed for co-operation. A message from Lahore states that the number- of refugees in the various camps in the Malabar district totals nearly 10,000, and many are still arriving. Native troops reconnoitring killed six rebels, and the Leinsters two. The Dorsets were also in action, but details are not available. A serious riot occurred at Howiah, Calcutta, where members of a Khali fate meeting attacked a magistrate and police with stones and sticks. The police fired on the rioters. One policeman was killed, one dangerously wounded and eight suffered injuries. Rioting was resumed on Sunday and Monday, and a policeman was stabbed in the back. Ghurkas were brought up to maintain order. The casualties among extremists are unknown definitely. Meetings are prohibited until further notice.
