SOME TELEGRAMS QUESTTONEQ. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Nov. 8. Some curious evidence was given in a ease in the Supreme Court as to the authenticity of certain telegrams. The Crown desired to put in two telegrams alleged to have been sent by the aci cused. Counsel objected, as the accused J denied sending them. Mr. Markham, assistant secretary of telegraphs, was called later, and said that he had been unable to trace the messages in question. The code was incorrect, and one was marked as sent from Eltham at a time when that office whs neff open. The number on it was also incorrect, but the date stamp, however, appeared to be genuine and it looked as if the telegrams had been through the Wellington office. He was making further enquiries. Later on a third message was produced which was also alleged to be bogus. Mr. Markham said he could not pronounce on it at once, and would have to look into it.
