Orders for papers may also be left will’ them. GENERAL ITEMS. November 5. The Stratford Musical Society has engaged a number of talented vocalists for its concerts of November 23 and 24. as well as making arrangements to produce all the beat of the. local talent. Miss Teresa McEnroe, a talented Wellington soprano, of whom the critics have lately spoken highly, will appear on both evenings, and the Hawera Male Quartette, consisting of Messrs. Tate, Grace and Harvey Bros., will give items on the second evening. There is to be a different programme each evening and the local vocalists are at present practising hard for the concerts. Mr. Clement Wragge, the well-known scientist and lecturer, will deliver addresses in Stratford during this month.

There was a small attendance at a meeting called to discuss matters relating to the Boy Scouts last night. The Mayor (Mr. .1. W. McMillan) presided, but in view of the small attendance it was decided to hold a later meeting, to which the parents and friends of the Scouts will be invited.

The opening of the Stratford Tennis Club’s season, which was postponed last Thursday on account of the bad weather. will be held next Thursday afternoon. A meeting to complete the formation of the Stratford Cricket Club will be held in Smith’s team rooms on Monday night. Optimists w T ho are trying to. boost the game along here hope to have both Thursday and Saturday teams. SCHOOL SPORTS. The annual sports gathering of the St. Mary’s girls took place yesterday afternoon on the school playing fields. The weather was fine though there was a rather strong wind early in the afternoon. Those who were responsible for the management of the meeting were Miss Bates (sports mistress). Misses Marjorie Pease and Nora Browning (secretaries), Messrs. Young. Fookes, Christie, Rutherfurd, Porritt, W. Webster, Liddell, L. Webster, Browning, Hynes (Inglewood), Sanderson (Eltham), J. Campbell (iEltham) and Kemp (Te Wera). Mr. Abraham acF" ed as starter, and after the sports the prizes won were presented by Mrs. W. H. H. Young. Parents and friends were entertained to afternoon tea by Miss Stanford.
