PLUNKET BABY DAY.

GARDEN PARTY ON SATURDAY. The beautiful garden at Wairere, in Carrington Road, the residence of Mra Maee, shows what can be done by enterprising citizens in helping to beautify Aew Plymouth, for although only three years have elapsed since Mr. Maee bought the place, he has converted a wilderness into a really beautiful garden, with lawns, grottos, summerhouses and flower beds. On Saturday Mrs. Mace kindly al lowed Mrs. Douglas to have a gardei party in her pretty grounds, the proceeds to be given to the treasure stall for the Blanket Society’s Baby Day effort. The weather was very line, and although there were several other attractions in town about 45 ladies availed themselves of the opportunity at having afternoon tea under a shady tree on the lawn. There was a dainty stall, where Christmas puddings, cakes and sweets, all made by Mrs. Douglas found a quick sale. During the afternoon songs were sung by Miss Cocker and Mrs. Stuart-Russell, and pianoforte solos were played by Mrs. Denton. Mrs. Douglas is to be heartily congratulated upon the success of her very pleasant • and enjoyable party. The Plunket Society feel deeply grateful to the many kind friends who are showing such a really active interest in the welfare of the society.
