The condition of Mr. F. P. Corkill, of New Plymouth, showed a welcome improvement during the week-end.
Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., and Mrs. Smith, returned to New Plymouth by the mail train on Friday night. Viscount Grey, who was Secretary for Foreign Affairs in the Asquith Government, has become engaged to Lady Glenconnor. Viscount Grey is 58. Mr. W. F. Massey arrived in Auckland on Saturday afternoon and returned to Wellington last night. On Saturday he unveiled a statue of Robert Burns in the Domain. Mrs. H. B. Lepper judged the homo industries division at the annual show of the Manawatu A. and P. Association held at Palmerston North last week. A cable from London says the Rev. R. J. Campbell is resigning the charge of Christ Church, Westminster, _ owing to pressure of preaching and writing engagements for the next half year. He feels he ought not to allow his parochial duties to interfere with his special vocation of preaching.
