DUNEDIN CRIMINAL SITTING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Nov. 3. The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court opened to-day before Mr. Justice Chapman, who commented favorably on the fact that there was only one sexual case. This class of case was giving uneasiness in other parts of the Dominion. The Grand Jury returned true bills in all cases, except in a charge of attempted breaking and entering against Thos. Edward Rodgers. Thos. Wm. Ellis pleaded guilty to forgery am| was given detention for reformative purposes for a term not exceeding five years, to be concurrent with a reformative sentence he is now serving. Dunedin, Nov. 4. The criminal sittings were continued to-day. Donald lan Robertson was sentenced to 12 months’ reformative detention for attemped arson. The charge agains Allan Aitchison for the attempted murder of Constable Heise is proceeding. ALTERING A CHEQUE. Wellington, Nov. 3. At the Supreme Court, Bertram Burwood, on a charge of forging a cheque from £8 10s to £BO 10s on the Commercial Bank of Australia was sentenced to three years’ hard labor. Prisoner altered the cheque after the ledger-keeper had initialled it. Accused conducted his own defence, and made a vigorous speech and cross-examined closely.
