Barron (Timaru), who has been spending a few days with Mrs. G. Home, left this week for Wanganui. Mrs. A. S. Tonks has returned to Hawera, accompanied by Mrs. Tonks, of Timaru. Misses D. and G. George returned this week from a trip to Australia. Mrs. Varcoe, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs. A. A. Bennett, has returned to Wellington. Miss Harkness (Nelson), who has been the guest of Mrs. W. H. Moyes, left on Tuesday for Stratford. Miss D. Watkins has arrived from Christchurch to spend her holidays in New Plymouth. Miss Leitch, who has been the guest of Airs. C. Cameron Ward, Auckland, lias returned to New Plymouth. Mrs. James McKenzie, who has been the quest of Mrs. Wm. Kerr, returned to Wellington on Thursday, accompanied by her daughter, Miss Sheila McKenzie. • • • • The engagement is announced of Miss Marjorie Bramald, second daughter of Mrs. F. Dixon Bramald," of Frankley Road, New Plymouth, to Mr. Dann Le Cren Morgan, second son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Morgan, of Wellington. A very quiet wedding took place- on October 18, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs.-A. Hooker, Powderham Street, when their only daughter, Bertha Agnes Hooker, was married to Mr. Richard Person, youngest son of Mr. N. Person, of Masterton. The Rev. Blundell officiated. After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. R. Person left for a trip to Wellington and Masterton. “BILLETED.” The dates for “Billeted” are November 21, 22, and 23, at the Empire Theatre. Much interest te centred in the • next performance of “The Amateur Players.’’ The play chosen was one of ; the most successful plays of a London I season of a year or two ago. It had an ; extraordinary success both in London and in the provinces, and should prove a great draw to New Plymouth audiences. It is a cleverly written, well constructed play, and so cleverly humorous all the way through that it is sure to demand a good hearing. The entertainment is in aid of The Clarke Memorial Hostel. A further sum of £5OO must be met in April, for which the Board is responsible. Ticket sellers are asked to do their share in helping to make the effort the great success it should be. The amateur players have always enjoyed a warm appreciation from New' Plymouth audiences. This performance promises to excel any previous effort. WEDDINGS. HART—GREY. The marriage was solemnised at rd. Joseph’s Church, New Plymouth, on October 6, by the Very Rev. Dean MKenna, of Ethel, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Grey, Omata, and Lawrence Broughton, eldest son of Mr. Tom Hart, Omata. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in her bridal gown of ivory crepe-de-chine and georgette heavily worked with pearls, the veil being fastened with orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of pink tipped bell lilies and white heather, tied with tulle streamers. Miss Muriel Grey, of Eketahuna, was chief bridesmaid * and wore a very pretty I tunic frock and accordeon-pleated skirt, j champagne satin royale hand-embroider-ed in soft shades of blue and pink, outlined with gold, and her hat was of black tulle. She carried a bouquet of pink roses. Miss Peggy Crothers also attended the bride and looked dainty in ivory frilled net and lace and a picture hat with streamers, and carried a posy of yellow and pink primroses.’ Mr. Leslie Grey, brother of the bride, was best man. After Jhe ceremony, a reception was held in town by Mr. and Mrs. C. Grey, and in the evening they entertained a large number at “Te Awatea.” Omata. loafer Mr. and Mrs. Hart left on their honeymoon, the bride wearing a navy braided costume, furs and hat en suite. HILL—WAT ERL AND. ( A very pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Stephen’s Church, Waverley, on Monday, by the Rev. IT. Wilson, vicar of Waverley, the contracting parties being Mr. Cecil Thomas Hill, second •son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Hill, of Whenuakura, and Miss Rose. Hannah Waterland, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. Waterland, of Kohi. near Waverley. DAVIS— AR NOTJD. At the residence of Mrs. V . M. Donald, Tawhiti Road, on Wednesday afternoon. October 26. a wedding took place between Irene Emma Arnold, eldest daughter of Mr. F. Arnold, of Nolantown, and Albert Hector Davis, youngest son of the late Mr. Henry Inman Davis, of Raetihi. Miss Ethel Arnold, sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid, whilst Mr. A. West, uncle of the 1 ride, ably supported the bridegroom. The bride,’ who was given away by her

father, was dressed in full Salvation Army uniform of blue and carried a. beautiful bouquet of flowers. Captain Friberg, of Inglewood (late of Hawera). conducted the ceremony. After the ceremony the guests sat down to a sumptuous spread provided by Mrs. McDonald. Numerous speeches expressing good wishes were made. The happy couple received many useful presents, also some cheques. They left for their future home in Raetihi with the best wishes of all, stopping at Wanganui, where the honeymoon will be spent.
