WEST END SCHOOL CONCERT.
CHILDREN ENTERTAINED. A very pleasant function took place at the Kawaroa Park Bungalow last night, when the children and all who had assisted to make the recent entertainments in aid of the West End Schoo] such a success, were entertained at a social evening by the West (End School Committee. The time passed pleasantly in various games and dancing, music being supplied by Miss Rita Sole and Mr. J. Hoskin. A sumptuous supper was handed round. After supper Mr. J. 8. S. Medley, Chairman of the school committee, expressed the thanks of the committee to all who had assisted in making the entertainment, a gold bangle, at the cially |a.nd otherwise, and he said the net proceeds amounted to over £62. On behalf of the committee he presented to Miss Sole, who had acted as accompanist throughout the practices and the entertainment, with a gold bangle, at the same time expressing thanks for her valuable services. He also presented Mr. J. Lovell with a fountain pen as a slight memento of his assistance in training the blackbirds, who had proved a great hit. The committee, he said, could not express their appreciation of the services rendered by Messrs. J. Hoskin and T. Petty, two of their members, who had been responsible for the organisation of the concert. The success achieved was well merited appreciation of their work, and as a slight tribute, on behalf of the committee he presented them with signed certificates. All the recipients were greeted with musical honors and briefly responded. Mr. Medley then, presented Master Gerald Hoskin, who showed marked gift as a boy comedian, with three small presentations forwarded by admirers. Mr. Hoskin, in the course of his reply, thanked all the children for the way they had attended practices, etc., and the manner in which they had responded to his tuition. Thanks were also expressed to Mr. Evans and staff, Mr. Coad, Mr. and Mrs. Rountree, Miss Ruby Sole,’ and Messrs. Paterson and Co. During the evening songs were given by Mr. J. Lovell and Mr. Roy Sole, whilst Mr. T. Petty mystified the crowd with his fire-eating' performance and conjuring tricks.
