KAPONGA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The footballers’ ball held on Thursday, October 27, proved a. great success !in every way. The floor had been carefully prepared and was in first class i order, while the music (McCarty’s orichestra) left nothing to be desired. The i football club is grateful to the ladies of the district for th£ excellent supper [ provided, as well as to the ladies’ com i mittee, who so ably attended to the supper table. These thanks were e.- ' pressed by Mr. Fearon, on behalf of the 1 club, dtiring the course of the evening [ The presentation of the beautfid i tournament shield created a good deal of interest. In making the presentai tion on behalf of the donor (Mr. Casey), I Mr. Fearon said that one of the coni ditions attached to the shield was that lit should be kept at the public school jof the district that supplied the win- ! ning team. On the shield is neatly engraved the names of the players. The Kaponga team, winners of 1921, consisted of Messrs. J. Kissick, Lynski (2«, Dimock, M. Malone, D. Fitzgerald, each of whom received a gold medal. In addition to these, medals were presented to the most useful player m tach of the three teams playing in the cup competitions. The recipients were, V. Dimock (seniors), P. Briggs (juniors), Stringer (thirds).
It is with feelings of the deepest regret: that I have to record the sad death of Mrs. L. H. L. Powell, which occurred at the Kaponga private hospital on Monday night, after a brief illness. Mrs. Powell, though not long resident in Kaponga, by her ready sympathy and kindly nature, has left behind many friends to mourn the loss of a good wife, a good .mother, and a good neighbor. Widespread sympathy is extended to Mr. Powell, the more particularly as he has been for six weeks past, and still is, confined to his bed with a severe attack of influenza.
