WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) November 2. The address presented to His Excellency the Governor-General -on Saturday was beautifully written and engrossed by Mr. Stanley Tate, of Waitara. Six new Tikorangi telephone subscribers have been connected, bringing the list up to 125. Onp more will give the minimum number to secure an extension of the hours, and it is just possible that the hours will be 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. when this comes about. Mr. W. A. Jury, whose sudden death took place at Tariki, was at one time stable proprietor and mail contractor in the old coaching days at Waitara. Mrs. Wyllie, widow of the late Mr. S. Wyllie, schoolmaster, has decided to take up her residence in Foxton, where her son is in practice as a medical practitioner. Mr. A. F. Dugdale, having found relics of the 48th Regiment in his grounds near the Camp Reserve, expressed a desire to pass them on to the Governor-General on his recent visit to Waitara. His Excellency, being so informed, sent for Mr. Dugdale and thanked him personally for the gifts. A number of people who have resided in Waitara for a number of years had no idea the local bowling club had such a picturesque spot until they viewed it on the occasion of the Governor-General’s visit. Mr. W. Kingston seems to be equally succsesful at cricket as he is at football. New Zealand’s full-back topped the score on Saturday last with 85.
