DOMINION MANUFACTURE.
ATTEMPT TO DISCREDIT IT. TAMPERING WITH EXHIBIT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Interference with an exhibit, at the industrial exhibition with a view to damaging the name of a New Zealand article is said to have occurred. Mr. W. J. Jenkins, president of the Canterbury Industrial ’ Association, in a letter to the Board of Trade, says that some time during Saturday afternoon or evening an exhibit of nails made in Canterbury was interfered with. The exhibit case was partly cleared of nails and imported nails were put in their place. This must have been a deliberate act from the fact that the imported nails were substituted, and the man who did it would have iio other object than to discredit the maker or the goods he produces. Numbers of poor quality bent nails were placed in some of the spaces, obviously to prove what had been circulated from time to time —that the New Zealand nail is soft and inferior, which is entirely incorrect. The matter was inquired into by the Hon. E. P. Lee, as Minister of Industries and Commerce and also of Justice, and action is being taken to prevent further interference with the eXi hibits. The police are investigating thq tampering with the nail exhibit.
