THE MELBOURNE CUP. THE RACE DESCRIBED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Nov. 2. The Herald states: “Elrythmic started badly. The field down on reaching the bridge with leading. At four ftirlonzs Harvest King went to the front, and Eurythmic and David improved their posii’ons. At the turn Sister Olive, Pursuer and The Rover followed Harvest King, and were waiting an opening. At the distance Sister Olive forged ahead, vigorously ridden by O’Sullivan, and won by three-quarters of a length. The Rover's determined ci allenge was sLacen off. also a brilliant finishing effort by Amazonia." The Telegraph says: “The champions disappointed their patrons. David was knocked back to last. Eurythmic's swinging right leg got him into trouble through striking another horse. The test came at the distance when Staler Olive closed on Harvest King, going great guns. Though The Rover and Amazopia threw out a challenge, she hung on tenaciously and landed the stake." RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. Christchurch, Nov. 2. The weather was fine for training at Riecartan this morning. A grass track was available, also the sand plough, but work was duil. Sasr.nof sprinted half a mile strongly. Warlove did three-quarter pace work for nearly two miles. Isabel moved along, doing useful work. Almoner and Songbird were associated in a working gallop over a -mile. After a good start Mandrake gave a good exhibition, jumping four hurdles. A number of youngsters were exercised at the starting barrier. The southern horses, Michaela, WTiipcord, Almoner and Mandrake made a good start. Kerry Star- and Songbird arrived last night. Jock will not be a competitor at the meeting, i-aving caught a cold recently.
