DISTRICT NEWS.
RAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The local school children were taken to Opunake on Thursday In eight cars to see Lord and Lady Jellicoe. A large crowd assembled to welcome the Governor. Those who did not go were at the Rahotu Post Office as the party drove through, and the Maori flags were floWn. On behalf of the Maoris, Papa welcomed the visitors. A meeting of the Anglican ladles was held last Tuesday, and it was arranged to hold a fancy mart in the afternoon with a concert and dance in the evening, on December 1. The Bishop of Auckland will be in the district shortly, and will confirm tbij candidates of Pungarehu and Rahotu on of November 28, in St. Nicholas Church. Rahotu farmers are still going in for cars. Messrs. Dawson and Fischer are the latest owners of motors. Mrs. Hopkins, sent., and Mrs. Tyrrell are spending three weeks' holiday in Auckland and Rotorua. The local bowlers propose opening the green on November 12, and should the day prove fine a pleasant time is assured.
