AMERICAN LEGION.
AN IMPORTANT CONVENTION. PREVENTING MORE WARS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Nov. 1, 5.5 p.m. New York, Oct. 31. The American Legion convention at which Marshal Foch, Lord Beatty, General Diaz and M. Jacques are the guests of honor, has opened at Kansas City. The national commander intimated that the legion will push its efforts to obtain Federal aid for disabled veterans. Vice-president Coolige, in the course of a speech, said: “Nothing is closer to president Harding than the question of j relief for the incapacitated. The Presi- . dent will do all that can be done to prevent the need of your again eacrific.ing yourselves for the country’s welfare.” General Diaz said that peace must arise from the world war. He presented Italy’s greetings, M. Jacques offering Belgium's. Mr. G. L. Berry, on behalf of Mr. Samuel Gompers, has pledged that the legion will support the American Federation of Labor in preventing Bolshevism and Sovietism gaining a foothold in the country. It also promised labor assistance to get returned soldiers legislative aid.
