LAND AGENT SENT TO GAOL. - By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Oct. 31. At the Supreme Court William Allan Hopkins, aged 63, formerly land and estate agent, who on the lower court had pleaded guilty to four charges of theft arising out of the investigations following on his bankruptcy, was sentenced to four years’ hard labor on each of the four cases, the sentences to run concurrently. AN ALLEGED BOOKMAKER. Dunedin, Oct. 31. William Valentine Forrester, charged with carrying on the business of bookmaker, reserved his defence and was committed for trial.
