ALPS GIVE UP DEAD.
OLD DISASTERS RECALLED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. London, Oct. 30. The Observer’s Geneva correspondent states that owing to the abnormal summer and the absence of snow, the Alps are giving up the bodies of the climbers killed in 1865 during the first ascent of the Matterhorn, by Edward Whymper. The body of the famous guide Trench, who was killed in 1903, has also been recovered recently. [Tn July. 1865, Lord F. Douglas, Rev. C. Hudson, Mr. Hadow, and the guid-? Michel Croz, were killed during the first ascent of the Matterhorn. Mr. Wliympc. and another guide were leading when one of the men lower down the rop.slipped and four climbers were carried .over a precipice. Any hope of saving their lives vanished when the rope broke.]
