MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
NEW PLYMOUTH SITTING. A sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held at New Plymouth yesterday, Mr. A. M. Mowlem presiding. As the result of informations brought by the County Inspector (Mr. B. Tippins) Ernest Giddy was convicted on a charge of allowing a cow to wander on the Te Arei Road, and was ordered to pay costs 255. For allowing a horse to wander on the Te Arei Road, Ned Punga was fined 5s and ordered to pay costs, 22s 6d. Judgment by default was given in the case of Hannah and Co. v. Geo. A. Pugh, claim for £2 0s 5d (costs £1 3s 6d). FAILURE TO ATTEND DRILL. Further prosecutions were conducted by the Defence Department against territorials who had failed to attend drill.
A fine of £3 (with costs 7s) was imposed on Barton John Jones, who had attended only one out of eight parades held since he was previously convicted. Anthony Lucachefski, who was charged for a third time for failing to render personal services, was credited by the prosecution with being an “outlaw.” He never had attended parades it was said and. seemed to defy the defence authorities. “He will be fined £3, and next time he comes along I’ll deprive him of his. civil rights,” said His Worship in convicting defendant.
