Mr. J. Edie, M.P. for Bruce, and Mrs. Edie, who have been spending the weekend in New Plymouth with their daughter, Mrs. Geden, of Dawson Street, return to Wellington this morning.
Mr. A. Kay has retired from the position of manager of the London office of the Bank of New Zealand, after forty years of continuous service. Mr. Robert Mill is the new manager. Mr. AHempton, the new assistant manager, arrived in England recently. Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P. for Waitomo, has informed the Leader of the Opposition by wireless that he will arrive in Auckland by the Makura on October 29.
Dr. Hazel Paterson, daughter of Mr. J. J. Paterson, of Manaia, has been appointed assistant medical officer at the Timaru Hospital, succeeding Dr. Eva Day, who goes to Dunedin. Dr. Day is a daughter of Mr. V. G. Day, S.M.
Mrs. William Keeble, who had resided in Masterton for over 50 years, died at the Public Hospital on Saturday morning at the age of 55. The late Mr. Keeble, who predeceased his wife nint* years ago, was a well-known cab pro* prietor, both in Masterton and Pahiatua
Lieut.-Colonel <Gist, who for seven years has filled the position of principal of the Salvation Army Training College, Wellington, has been transferred to Aiutralia, and with Mrs. Gist left for Sydney last week by the Marama. Adjutant Copp, who for seven years has been associated with Colonel Gist, has proceeded to the Army’s mission fields in India. Within the last two years the organisation has sent eleven of its officers to mission fields in East Africa, Java, and India, and hopes to send another contingent to India and China in particular.
Appreciation of the many services rendered by the Hon. Arthur Myers to the city of Auckland was expressed at the meeting of the executive of the Soldiers 1 Mothers’ League. The following resolution was passed and forwarded to Mr. Myers: —“That this meeting of the executive place on record ite sense of deep appreciation of the Hon. A. M. Myers' loyalty to the city of Auckland in the valuable gifts made, and the magnanimous generosity ever forthcoming. The executive expresses its sincere regret that ill-health is the cause of his retirement from his position as member for City East, and hope he will be soon restored to his usual health.”
