AUSTRALIANS v. SOUTH AFRICA. OPENING OF THE TOUR. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Oct. 23, 5.5 p.m. Capetown, Oct. 22. The Australian cricketers opened their tour in South Africa with a match at Johannesburg against the Transvaal Wanderers. The weather was fine and the wicket perfect, and there was a large attendance. Transvaai, in their first innings, made 173. Cooper (30), Frank (45), Ma.-x (65). The last two played excellent, punishing cricket, otherwise the exhibition was poor. Hendry took three wickets for 13* runs, and McDonald, Mailey and Macartney two each. At the end of the day’s play Australia had lost two wickets for 112 runs (Cdllins 27, Bardsley 26, Macartney not out 34).
