AUSTRALIA’S GOLD.

DECREASED PRODUCTION. Sydney, Sept. 28. The figures of Australians gold production for th© past eight months .-show another startling decline, being 116,826 dz. less than for the corresponding period of the previous y-ear, which nt its turn showed a very heavy drop com--pared with 1919. The falling off is most noticeable in Western Australia and Queensland. In the first-named State the heavy costs, due to recent Arbitration Court awards, have led to the shutting down of properties, and others are on the point of stopping .because of their inability to continue working except at a loss, despite the premium being got on gold sold abroad. The reduction in Queensland is traceable to the shutting down of the Mount Morgan mine. The following is a comparison of the output for the first eight months of 19£1, compared with the yields for the corresponding terms in 1920 and 1919: —
