NORTHERN TERRITORY.
FEDERAL OFFICER’S CLAIM. ■. Melbourne, Oct. 7. It is expected that the claim of Mr. H« E. Carey, formerly Administrator of the Northern Territory, for compensation from the Federal Government for alleged wrongful dismissal from the service of the Commonwealth, will be heard in Melbourne within the next few days. No specified amount is claimed. The matter has been in abeyance for some time, the alleged dismissal having taken place over a year ago. Mr. Carey, who followed Dr. Gilruth, and before was the secretary for tire Territory, left the Northern Territory with Judge Bevan and Mr. M. J. Evans, following threats by thQ residents of Darwin that, unless they left voluntarily, they would be de’ported.
