CHARGES AGAINST A NEGRO.

In connection with the charge againsfcthe negro Spencer of assaulting L-eonarm Storey, the Magistrate proceeded to hearj a charge laid by the police againeq Storey of threatening and insulting be-*' haviour. Evidence in the former easel, was accepted in this. Spencer was fin* ed £5 and £5 2s expenses. Storey was also fined £5 and 32/co&ts for using insulting language, a charge of threatening behaviour being dismissed. Spencer was then fined £1 on a threatening behaviour charge. Nine leading residents were charged with making a demonstration against Spencer. The Bench held there was preconceived action, but that, there wae no fear of further molestation, and the application for sureties to keep the peace were dismissed.
