JAVA SHIPPING LINE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Sydney, Oct. 19. The new shipping line, the Sourabaya Company, is arranging monthly sailings between Java and Australian ports. WIRELESS DEVELOPMENT. Sydney, Oct. 20. Mr. Fisk, managing director of Australasian Wireless, has returned from England. He explains that the company is fully prepared for wireless between England and Australia and is equipping the capital cities of each State. CANBERRA LAID UP. Melbourne, Oct. 20. Owing to the dullness of the interstate shipping trade it is stated that the Canberra will be laid up. The outlook seemed bright recently, but the plague at Brisbane has frustrated the hopes for several months. PREMIERS’ CONFERENCE. Melbourne, Oct. 20. The Premier’s Conference has been fixed for October 31, primarily to discuss wheat control.
THE BASIC WAGE. Sydney, Oct. 20. The Board is expected to declare the basic wage of rural workers at £3 lbs per week or £2 with board. The Cabinet is in a quandary over the living wage decision. Mr. Doo‘ey, in justifying Mr. MNJirr’s action in.intercepting the Gazette notice, said that the Government was doing all possible to help the workers to hold what they possessed. . The railway Commissioners are applying to the Industrial Court for an all round reduction of 3s.
