LARGE NUMBER UNEMPLOYED. By Telegraph Press Aaea —CopyrightReceived Ort. 18, 7.35 pm. London, Oct. 18. Mr. Smith, president of the Yorkshire Miners’ Union, speaking at a labor congress, stated that 12j000 Yorkshire miners Were unemployed and the majority of those employed were on anort time. Certain owners were seeking to break agreements and attempting to reduce tonnage rates. He alleged one colliery gave notice to a number of men for refusing to accept five shillings per day. Mr. Hartkorn, a member of the Home of Commons, speaking at a miners’ meeting at A herds declared that the South Wales owners were guilty of dishonorable conduct in seeking to up set the wages award.—Aus.-N.Z.
