There died at Brixton (near Waitaro.) on Monday Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Wells, relict of the late Robert Wells. Mrs. Wells, who was 77 years of age, belonged to the fast diminishing band of sturdy early settlers who were responsible for laying the foundations of Taranaki so truly -and well, experiencing the trials and vicissitudes incidental to pioneering life in North Taranaki. She was a particularly fine and lovable character, of whom it could truly be said she spent most of her life in trying to do good, and in this was supported by her husband, who predeceased her some few years. She leaves a grown-up family. The funeral takes place this afternoon.
