An inquest was held to-day regarding the death of Edward Fitzgerald Gould, an American engineer, who was found dead outside the Empire Hotel at an early hour on Saturday morning. Deceased was about 38 years of age and fell from a window on the third floor of the hotel. Evidence was given that deceased was a man of regular habits and on Saturday night at 11 o’clock was in good health and perfectly sober. The window of the room was open to the fuLest extent. The blind, which was drawn, was torn and the bottom crushed. This was probably caused through its having been caught hold of. The window sill was about two feet from the floor. The bed had been used. A verdict of accidental death was returned. The coroner suggested that the licensee should have bars put across the windows.
