ENTERTAINMENTS.
THE PEOPLE’S. LAST NIGHT OF ‘-WAR BRIDES.” Nazimova, in the big Selznick superplay ‘‘War Brides.” concludes its season to-night at the People's. It is a powerful screen play and Alla Nazimova, has never been seen to better advantage. The bill includes gazettes, comedy and “The Moonriders.” To-morrow’s change presents Pearl White in the big Win. Fox offering, “Know Your Men.” a drama of a heart bruised and torn until it learned to know men. A big Sunshine comedy is also on this bill. EVERYBODY’S. CLARA KIMBALL YOUNG IN “MID CHANNEL.” Few productions present the life of the average human being as it really happens before our very eyes. One, and notably the most effective, picture that throbs with warm-blooded human emotion is “Mid-Channel,” one of the greatest dramas of married life by one of the world’s greatest playwrights, Sir Arthur Wing Pinero. No wonder a play with the powerful theme of the critical period of marriage as its subject ceated such a furore on Broadway soine years ago, when Ethel Barrymore made her spectacular triumph in the leading role. “Mid-Channel,” with the supreme dramatic star, Clara Kimball Young, as the main character, comes to Everybody’s Theatre to-night, and is a picture that no one can afford to miss. Rarely has there been a production on a scale as fine as “MidChannel” —and, above all, with an appeal as universal and soul-stirring as this masterpiece of England’s foremost playwright, Sir Arthur Wing Pinero. The box plans are at Collier’s. WEST END SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENT. Increasing interest is being manifested by pupils and parents in the entertainment which is to be held in the Empire Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday evening in aid of the West End School funds. For several weeks past the children have been busily engaged in practising in the West End gymnasium and also at the Kawaroa Park bungalow, whilst the girls have also rehearsed their dances on several occasions on the Empire stage. To-night a full dress rehearsal is to be held at the theatre to ensure that the children who are already letter perfect shall have the necessary stage confidence. Complete arrangements have been made by the committee and the promoters of the entertainment (Messrs. J. Hoskin, J. Lovell, T. Petty and A. Coad) to ensure the success of the function. The scenery should be a special feature, whilst the lighting effect is also said to be particularly striking. The full programme will appear to-morrow morning. Intending patrons should book their seats at Collier’s. The prices of admission are 2/- and 1/-, children half price, booking Gd.extrii.
