TARATA PATRIOTIC FUNDS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Some time ago, may be nearly two years, it was known that the Tarata Patriotic Society had a substantial balance to its creoif. Since then £6 has been paid, I believe, to Purangi, to defray the cost of placing in the school a memorial tablet in honor of soldiers from that district, who had made the great sacrifice. So far, so good. Now, what I and a number of other contributors to this fund would like to know, Is what are we going to do with the balance. Tarata and Pukeho schools could each accommodate a “Roll of Honor” tablet. Moreover, there Is little doubt that a vote in favor of such a movement would be carried on the voices. But we want tu know; we wish to have everything done in a friendly way and funds distributed justly, so that the whole matter may be finally squared. To secure this finish, I, for one, think a public meeting should be called at an early date and the whole matter wound up and wiped off the slate, to the satisfaction of the subscribers, of whom I am one, and to the ease of the secretary and treasurer, who would be well advised to call such meeting soon. —I am, etc., W. TOPPING. Tarata, October 13.
