THE WOOL MARKET.
RISE AT WELLINGTON SALE. KEEN COMPETITION. By Telegraph. —Press Association Wellington, Last Night. The wool sale at Wellington to-day was limited to 7320 bales. Reserves were also fixed on the B.A.W.R.A. basis, but they were exceeded as the sale progressed. Approximately 97 per cent, of the aggregate catalogue was sold, and the prices of wool were well ahead of those at the last sale on August 19. These latter prices were below the prewar prices. There was an old-time zest about the competition to-day. Bradford was strongly represented, the Continent had keen buyers, America was silent (if represented at all), while Japanese attention was confined to crutchings. There was a fair amount of unattractive wools, including some seedy lambs’ wool. They were not rushed, but good lambs were in request. The run was on half-bred and crossbred wools, and small parcels of merino and Southdowns were keenly bid for. This is the position of the market compared with the prices ruling at the last August sales, the prices being up: Half-bred, lid to 2d per lb.; fine crossbred, IJd; medium crossbred, Id to P/jd; coarse crossbred, Id to l%d> l°w crossbred, gd to Id; hoggets, Id to l%d; lambs, good Id; crutchings, par to %d; locks, bellies and pieces, same as August sale. MIXED SALE AT LONDON. GOOD COMPETITION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 14, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. IG. At. the mixed wool sale there was good French and home competition. Merinos were firm at full late rates, and crossbreds showed a hardening tendency. The market was fairly active for spot lots, but there was little disposition to operate in futures. Sixty-fours quality is quoted at 48d, 60’s 42d, 58’s 34d, 46’s il'4fd.
