Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date October 12:— Tallow.—We quote present spot values for the following descriptions: Fine mutton, £2 14s per cwt.; good beef. £2 9s 6d per cwt.; mixed, £2 3s per cwt. Small demand; downward tendency. New Zealand Frozen Meat.—Launb, 8 l-8d per lb. (average) ; wether, maiden ewe, light 6 l-8d per lb.: heavy 4 5-8 d per lb.; ewe, light, 4 5-8 d per lb,; heavy, 4d per lb.; ox beef, hinds 5%d per lb., fores 3%d per lb.; cow beef, hinds 4d per lb., fores 2%d per lb. Messrs. Dnlgety and Company. Limited, report having received the following cablegram from their London house under date October 12 : Tallow.—lsso casks of tallow offered, 200 casks sold. Since our report of October 7 prices are nominally 2s lower; fair mixed 445, gut 375, best qualities neglected; nominal quotations for fine beef 565, fine mutton 555. NEW PLYMOUTH HAYMARKET. Thre was a large yarding of p:gs at Messrs. Newton King, Ltd’s., Haymarket yesterday, but prices showed a decline. Weaners made up to 15s, small slips 13s to 20s 6d, good slips to 235, stinall stores to 28s 6d, larger sorts 40s. THE POULTRY MARKEY. L. A. Christchurch, Oct. 12. At the Addington market there was a full yarding of all classes of stock. Beef, owing to outside supplies congesting the market, dropped 5s to 6s per 1001 b, but otter sections of stock sold up to recent rates. Store Sheep.-—An improved market, particularly for hoggets. Six and 8-tooth ewes and lambs 10s lid to 12s sd, U-tooth ewes (low conditioned) and lamhs Ils 3d, failing-mouthed ewes and lambs 7s to 9s 9d, cull ewes and launbs 5s lid, ordinary wether hoggets 7s 9d to 10s 3d, good halfbred wether hoggets 13s to 13s Bd, ordinary m s. hoggets 9s Id, forward 4 and 6-tooth wethers 13s 5d to 14s, small Ils 4d, good 2-tooth wethers 13s sd. Spring Lambs.—3oo were penned, and ttere was a. good sale for well-grown lambs, but small sorts were not in request. Top prices were from 29s 6d to 32s 9d, prime 25s to 295, medium 20s to 24s 9d, inferior 15s 3d to 19s. Fat Sheep.—A good entry and a free sale at about last week’s values, with practically a total clearance. Extra prime wethers 29s 6d, prime 23s 3d to 27s 6d, medium 20s to 2Ss, light and unfinished 16s Id to 19s 3d. prime ewes 19s 9d to 23s lOd, medium 17s 3d to 19s 6d, inferior 15s 3d to 17s. prime heggets 17s 8d to 20s, light to medium 15s 9d to 17s fid. Fat Cattle.—An over supply, and prime beef dropped in value by £2 per head, but light beef ceased only to a small extent. Extra prime steers £2O, prime £l4 10s to £l7, medium £ll 5s to £l4 7s Gd, light and unfinished steers £7 2s fid to £ll ss, prime heifers £9 15s to £l3 2s 6d, medium £7 7s to £9 10s, light and unfinished £6 to £7 ss, prime cows £8 5s to £l2 15s, ordinary £5 5s to £B. Dairy Cattle. —The demand was good until half way through the sale, when a slackening occurred. Extra good second and th'-'l calvers £l6 to £2l 10s, good £8 to £lj, extra good springing heifers £IC 10s, ordinary £8 to £l2 10s, cows in milk £3 to £lO, aged and inferior cows 10s to £5. Fat Pigs.—A large entry, with a weaker market for porkers. Choppers £3 to £5 10s, light baconers £4 5s to £5, heavy £5 5s to £5 18s. Average prices per lb 8d to B%d. Light porkers £2 15s to £3 2s 6d, heavy £3 5s to £3 15s, average price per lb B%d to 9%d. Store Pigs.—Good weaners 21s to .ios, small 15a to 18s, medium stores £2 10s to £2 15s, small £1 16s to £2 Bs. AUCKLAND STOCK MARKET. Beef at fully Westfield prices. Springers, best, close to profit £l5 to £24, others £9 10s to £l4 10s, backward, best £lO to £lB sa, others £7 to £9-15s, aged cows and Inferior heifers £2 upwards.
We held a special horso sale at Papakura on Saturday, when we had a large entry, and report a good sale. Heavy draughts £3B to £4B, medium £26 to £37, aged and part worn sorts £l2 to £2O, light harness sorts £lO to £l9, hacks £8 10s to £l6 10s, ponies £4 to £B, weeds £1 to £3. At Westfield fat stock market on Wednesday beef was penned In average numbers. Tnere was an improved demand, especiallj’ for ligtt-weight prime cattle, quotations being better than last report. We quote:—Extra choice oxen to 35s per 1001 b, choice and prime 30s to 345, > rough and unfinished 24s to 295, young cow and heifer beef, 25s to 29s per 1001 b, other cow beef 18s to 245. No extra heavy prime cattle penned. Heavy prime steers sold to £l4 10s, medium £ll to £l3 17s Gd, light £8 to £lO 17s fid, small and unfinished £5 10s to £7 17s Gd, young cows and heifers £6 to £9, others £3 2s 6d to £5 17s fid. Some of the averages were:— 12 steers from Mr. Robert Ross, Topuni, £lO Is 3d, 8 from Mr. George Cox, Mangere £ll 12s 6d, 6 from Mr. J. R. Bryant, Karaka £lO 10s, 4 from Mr. E. A. Urquhart, Kayaka £lO 17s fid, 14 from Mr. Alex Orr's Hoteo property £9 12s fid, 0 from Mr. E. P. Paul, Mangere £8 7s fid. Calves were penned In large numbers, and sold at improved prices. Runners £4 to £5 12s, vealers, heavy £4 10s to £4 15s, medium £3 to £3 10s, light £2 to £2 12s, smaller £1 5s to £1 18s, small and fresh-dropped 6s to £l. Steep were penned in average numbars, selling under steady competition at late quotations. No extra heavy sheep, woolly or shorn, were penned. Heavy prime wethers, woolly £1 to £1 2s, shorn 18s 6d to £l, medium prime wethers, woolly 17s 9d to 19s 6d, shorn 17s to> 18s 3d, light prime wethers, woolly 16s to 17s 6d, unfinished wethers, woolly 13s to 15s 9d, heavy prime ewes, shorn to 16s Gd, woolly to £l, medium prime ewes, woolly 14s to 16s 6d, light, shorn Ils to 13s Gd, hoggets, best shorn to 18s 6d, others Ils 6d to 15s 3d. Spring lambs, in large numbers, sold readily at late quotations. Heavy prime £1 6s 6d to £1 10s 3d. medium prime £1 13 to £1 6s 3d, light prime 16s 9d to £1 0s 9d. Pigs were penned in large numbers, and showed no improvement in price. We quote: Choppers £4 to £5 ss, baconers, heavy £5 15s to £6 10s, medium £4 18s to £5 14s, light baconers and heavy porkers £4 to £4 17s, porkers, medium £3 4s to £3 18s, light £2 12s to £3 2s, stores, large £2 to £2 10s, slips £1 10s to £1 19s, weaners 13s to £1 Bs. BURNSIDE STOCK SALE. Dunedin, October 12. There were again good supplies of fat, stock at the Burnside sale to-day, sheep, cattle, spring lambs, and pigs being well represented. Values for cattle were a shade better, while for other classes of stock prices were much the same as at last week's sale.
Cattle.—A large yarding (220) of fair quality. At the opening of the sale prices were a little fiiiner, and at the close good heavy prime sorts were 10s to 15s per head above last week’s low rates. Prime ox beef was worth Lp to 33s per 1001 b., medium 23s fid to 27s 6d, and heifer beef about 325. Prime bullocks realised from £l6 10s to £l9 10s, medium from £l3 to £l5 10s, light and unfinished from £9/10s upwards; prime heifers from £l2 to / £l4, medium from £9 to £ll, light and aged from £6 10s. Sheep.—A good yarding (2804) of fair quality. At the opening of the sale the demand was slack and prices were Is 6d to 2s per head below last week’s values, but as the sale progressed values Armed, and at the close there was no quotable change in values. Prime wether mutton was worth, just about 3d per pound, and light weights and ewes a fraction less. Prime wethers brought from 22s to 24s 3d, medium 18s fid to 21s Gd, light and unfinished from 15s Gd. Ewes were poorly represented, and those sold realised from J '-. Gd to 17s 6d. Four pens of good quality shorn wethers were offered, and these- brought from 16s 3d to 19s per head.
Spring Lambs —Forty-nine were penned, a large supply, for which there was a fair demand. The whole yarding was disposed of at prices ranging from 15s to 375. Values were easier, and best quality lamb may be quoted at liP/jd per lb. Store Cattle.—About 100 head, a small yarding, composed mostly of indifferent sorts. The demand was very slack, the market being practically in a lifeless condition. Those which were sold realised values on a par with last week's rates.
Pigs.—There was a full supply of pigs, all classes being well represented. The demand for large pigs was a little weaker man at the previous sale, while a good demand existed for porkers and small pigs. Prices were back to the extent of some shillings per head. Best baconers realised up to B%d per 11)., and best porkers from B%d to 9d per lb.
