ANGLICAN SYNOD.

BISHOP AVERILL’S ADDRESS. By Telegraph —l’ress Association Auckland, Oct. 14. Bishop Averill, in his address at the opening of the Diocesan Synod, referring to the Lambeth Conference appeal for the reunion of Christendom, urged I the clergy and laity to seize every opI portunity of discussing with any other Christian creed sympathetically and prayerfully the question of reunion in accordance with the Lambeth appeal. He also urged the clergy to study the report of the conference on the question of Christian faith in relation to spiritualism, Christian science and theosophy, particularly Christian science. No man : could serve two masters, and the Christ of these “isms” was not the Christ of the Bible or the Christian creed. With regard to the general principle of women instructing and exhorting congregations. the Bishop said he was not yet convinced of its general advisability or expediency, but he had no objection whatever to women, with the approval of the Bishop, speaking in consecrated buildings at other than regular services. The Synod passed a resolution declaring “it was convinced that there were sufficient grounds for such a departure from the custom of the church of the province of New Zealand as is involved in the proposed attachment of the primary to any individual see, and the Synod is convinced that the General ’Synod is the proper body to elect the primate, and if the primary is attached to any particular see the General Synod i should retain its rights in the election of the primate ” =================
