NEWTON KING, LTD., REPORTS. At Stratford on the 4th inst. we report an extra heavy yarding of cattle,- the bulk of which consisted of well-grown an<£ good-qual-ily yearling and 2-year empty heifers. The tone of tie sale was exceedingly bright throughout., and practically the whole yarding changed hands at the hammer. Quotations: Extra .good quality 15-month Jersey heifers £l3 Is, other pens of same class £7 In to £8 17s (id, small do. £O, mixed 15-month heifers (tops) £3 17s 6d to £5, medium quality £.2 ifl.; to £3 10s, small yearlings £i 10s to £2 10s, 2-year empty heifers £5 6s to £6 7s 6d, light fat cows £5 to £T, forward do. £2 10s to £4, store do. 15s to 30s, yearling Jersey bulls £6 10s to £B. In tho dairy pons at Stratford on the same day there was also a steady demand, and practically everything sold. Best quality heifers made up to £l6 10s, medium do. £lO to £l3, cows to £2O. At Inglewood on the sth inst. both store and dairy pens were well filled and satisfactory clearances made. Store prices firmed considerably compared with the previous sale, good yearling and wnpt.y heifers making most movement. Yearling heifers £3 10a to £3 15s, small do. 35s to £2 ss, 2-year empty heifers £5 to £6 10s, yearling steers to 255, 2-year do. 30s, yearling Jersey bulls £4 5s to £7, store cows to £2 10s. In the dairy section top quality Jersey heifers made £l5 to £lB, fair average mixed heifers £lO to £l4. cows £l5 to £l9. The sale on the whole was a good one. BULL FAIRS. • In addition to the special pedigree Jersey bull sales held at Kaponga, New Plymouth and Stratford, which have already been fully reported, we have conducted the following since our last report:— At Waiwakaiho. on Friday, October 7, bulls were yarded in full advertised numbers, uie majority being pedigree and grade Jerseys. Buyers were in attendance from ail parts of Taranaki, also from as far south as Waverley and Palmerston North, and a most satisfactory clearance was imade. Practically the whole entry of Jerseys was cleared. Shorthorns and Friesians were in little or no demand. Pedigree Jersey yearlings to 34gns, 2- to 42gns, aged to 3Qgns. Grade Jersey yearlings to £lB, 2-year-olds to £26. 3- £l5 to £25, Friesians to £l3. At Stony River, on the 10th inst., there was a good yarding of nice quality bulls, Jerseys especially, and a spirited sale was made. Pedigree Jersey yearlings to 45gns. S-year-olds to 45gns, 4-year do. to 50gna. Grade Jersey yearlings to £l5, 2-year-olds to £2O, 3-year do. to £36, Shorthorns to £lO 10s. THE HIDE MARKET. SALE AT STRATFORD. The New Zealand Loan ajjd Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report: At our monthly sale held here yesterday we offered a fair catalogue to a spirited bench of buyers. Competition was keen, and all lines of hides, calfskins, etc, showed an advance on last month’s sale. The following'are some of the prices obtained: Abattoir cowhides, average 3C-431b5., 7%d per lb.; abattoir ox hides, average 46-541b5., 7%d to 8d per lb.; settlers' cow hides, 4 5-8 d to per lb.; settlers’ yearlings, per lb.; calfskins sound, 17%d to 18d per lb.; calfskins cut, 12 l-8d per lb.; calfskins - slipy, B’4d per lb. There has been no demand for sheepskins, but infremation to hand indicates a better tone.
