FLEET IN THE PACIFIC.
NEW ZEALAND'S CONTRIBUTION. IN MONEY OR SHIPS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 12, 8.5 p.m. London. Oct. 11. The New Zealand High Commissioner (Sir James Allen), interviewed by the Daily Chronicle regarding Mr. W. F. Masseys naval speech, stated that the amount of the New Zealand contribution was a mat ter for the Dominion Parliament. It might be taken for granted that New Zealand would do her share, perhaps providing money to build ve«eels. as in the case of the warship New Zealand. A leading Admiralty official, interviewed, said New Zealand may ask to be permitted to contribute to Pacific defence, but it was immaterial whether she contributed towards ships in the Pacific or the English Channel, as both were equally important. Referring to Mr. Massey’s statement that new ships would be Empire ships, and not merely United Kingdom ships, the official points out that the Navy has always been an Empire Navy.—Aus.-N.Z.
