WESTERN PARK.
A QUESTION OF FENCING. BOARD’S ACTION QUESTIONED. The fencing of Western Park along the Morley Street frontage was the subject of a letter received by the New Plymouth Borough Council at last night’s meeting. Mr. R. H. Oattley wrote commenting on the decision of the Park Board to erect a wire fence, and he continued: “I would like to know where the iron fence put up by Messrs. Griffiths and Bullet some years ago, costing over £l2O, and donated by those gentlemen, has gone to. I heard that it was taken down and sold by the board. If any reserve board has the right or power to sell anything that is donated to the various reserves it will prevent the public from donating anything in future.” The council decided to reply informing Mr. Cattley that the fence had been sold with a view to erecting a more permanent one in the future.
It was stated that the board intended to erect stone fence, but were waiting till the permanent street levels were fixed. These are now available, and the council also decided to inform the board to this effect.
