SOUTH AMERICAN TRADE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Washington, Oct. 8. An official review of German shipping shows that Germany is regaining the South American trade. Seventeen ' Hamburg companies are operating .profitably, while American ships are barely ' paying expenses. Germans are exporting largely to Brazil, Argentina and Mexico. . The report states that numbers of British and American ships are being repaired in Germany, because the work can be done 30 per cent, more cheaply than in New York.
