The secretary of the unemployment conference reports that the following measures have been taken: (1) A Mayors’ emergency committee has been created to actively work 31 cities, and are in process of formation in other cities, co-ordinating the efforts in all sections of the community to solve the unemployment problem; (2) conferences were held between Mr. H. C. Hoover (Minister of Commerce), President Harding, and the heads of the great national industries, including railways, coal and shipping, resulting in a great national, commercial, and employers’ association scheme to assist the Mayors and to meet the situation generally; (3) a number of cities to immediately advance funds for local public works.— Aus.-N.Z.
