CRICKET.

SEASON OPENS TO-DAY. A practice match to-day will mark the beginning of the cricket season in New Plymouth, end members and intending members are requested to assemble on the racecourse at two o’clock this afternoon. As yet outside clubs have not got into their stride, but prospects for the season are considered bright. In New Plymouth it is hoped to have three playing wickets on the racecourse and one on Western Park. It is possible another may be got ready on reserve T. A couple of nights in the week will be fixed for practice, and it is hoped to start the competitions about the 29th Inst.
