POSITION GROWING WORSE. DANGER OF CIVIL WAR - By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 7, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 6. The Daily Chronicle’s special correspondent at Odenburg states that 1200 members of the Hungarian gendarmerie, under Lieut. Oszenburg, who is known to be a Karlist, are now responsible for the maintenance of order in Orenburg, with its 40,000 inhabitants. Oszenburg may at any moment go over to the .irregulars, with whom he is ift touch. The irregular bands now number 3000, but can be, extended to 30,000, under Col. Pronay, is a ruthless terrorist, and is determined to withhold Burgenland from Austria, All the irregulars, however, do not favor the recall of Karl, and his return would probably result in civil war. There was a time when a battalion of Allied troops could have cleared the country. Now a division would be required, and soon three divisions would be the least that could cope with the task.—Aus - N.Z. Cable Assn.
